Have you ever wondered if you could stop notifications on a particular text message? Maybe you have been involved in a group text and the notifications become unbearable. It seems like the responses are never going to stop.
There were times in the past where I have been on our group text message with a lot of other people regarding something that I needed to know and really was intended as one way communication. However, since there are multiple people on the message, they start having a side conversation that you are now looped into by responding to the message.
One thing you could do to stop the alerts is turn your entire phone on Do Not Disturb. However, you still want to be alerted to other notifications that are coming in.
This solution for this would be to turn on Do Not Disturb for an individual message.
Note: This directions are how to do this on an iPhone. I am sure there are probably ways to do this on Android as well, but they are not discussed here.
Here are the steps you need to follow in order to disable notifications on an individual text message in iOS 8.
- Go to the Messages app
- Select the message you would like to turn off the notifications for
- In the upper right, select Details
- You will see Do Not Disturb near the middle of the screen with the toggle in the off position. Tap this to turn it on.
This will turn the notifications off for this text message only. It does not turn Do Not Disturb on for everything. One thing to note is when you delete the text message, the Do Not Disturb setting will default back to the off position the next time you receive a message from that person or the group.
